The following is a Lean Case Study from our MEP MSI-managed family of Manufacturing Extension Partnerships (MEPs) that demonstrates the impact of the Time Wise® Management Systems’ Lean transformation methodology deployed through Time Wise® Solutions training products.
KEENE, NH - Baudelaire Soaps of Keene, an importer of fine soaps and body care products, now has a leaner, cleaner manufacturing process thanks to the New Hampshire Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NH MEP).
Like many small businesses, Baudelaire is always looking for ways to increase productivity without increasing costs or adding to their staff of seven workers. Michele Ferraiolo, operations manager at Baudelaire, attended a NH MEP class on Lean Manufacturing, a process manufacturers can use to streamline production. Thanks to the simple tips Ferraiolo learned, she returned to the production floor and made some easy, but highly productive changes.
"We developed a Kanban card, which we place in the shipping area and the card tells the scheduler how much product needs to be developed without them having to run around the shop and check in with everyone," said Ferraiolo. "This saves the scheduler at least an hour a day, which translates into tens of work hours a month."
"I think Lean Manufacturing is very important," said Ferraiolo. "After implementing the processes suggested by NH MEP, we have cut down on overstocking product. We might make something once every three months now, where we used to make it once every month. Through the Lean methods, NH MEP is helping increase our production numbers without increasing our staff."
