For Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison, Acquisition Response Training Means Results
Florida MEP Helps Company Create a New Revenue Stream
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - Interested in gaining a share of the lucrative government market, Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison, a manufacturer and a distributor of DDC/ MTU diesel engines, Allison Transmissions, and Spectrum Generators, participated in the Florida Manufacturing Extension Partnership’s (Florida MEP) Acquisition Response Training (ART) program. The half day interactive workshop on government contracting gave company leaders the skills needed to successfully bid on government projects.
“As a result of the knowledge I gained from Florida MEP's seminar on doing business with the government we have successfully won bids with a total value in excess of $300,000,” said Hollis Roth, a government sales representative at Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison in Fort Lauderdale. “We stopped outsourcing and do our military packaging in-house and we are in the process of implementing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) labeling technology to support our government shipments. The investment in RFID technology will pay for itself in a very short time.”
With grant funding through the Brevard Workforce Development Board, the Florida MEP is offering this workshop to more than 300 manufacturers. This sustainable training helps individual companies gain insight on how to become a supplier with the government and be responsive to contract bids, which strengthens their competitive advantage. The Brevard Workforce Development Board is working with the Florida MEP to make this interactive workshop available to SupplyPoint® companies to support their workforce sustainment strategy throughout the state.
“This training course is geared towards manufacturers where the program can be tailored to a specific company’s needs. In this case, the Florida MEP followed up after the workshop with the company and helped identify bidding strategies that would yield the best results “said Tsila Blomberg, a Project Manager with Florida MEP’s Center for Supply Point Integration. “In less than 60 days, Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison won their first award with Defense Logistics Agency.”
