Improve Business Performance in Just Days and Sustain the Gains
Time Wise® Kaizen Rapid Improvement Event

Time Wise Kaizen Kit Time Wise® Kaizen Rapid Improvement event is a Lean implementation experience that involves a series of activities which follow a structured 10-step Kaizen process to enable a team to achieve rapid, action-oriented improvements identified during the Value Stream Mapping Event. A Kaizen focused improvement (often called a “blitz”) concentrates on a particular process or activity in an organization and through analysis, identifies and quickly removes waste and aligns activities for a “speed-to-value” outcome. It is a team-based activity and incorporates data and analysis to focus on and resolve specific problems related to a desired future state.

The Time Wise Kaizen event uses the industry standard Plan-Do-Check-Act problem-solving model. Once these problems are identified and resolved typical results are:

   •  300% plus improvement in productivity
   •  100% on time delivery
   •  30% - 50% reduction in lead time
   •  50% or more reduction in waste, scrap, etc.

In a Time Wise Kaizen event, participants learn to:

   •  Solve priority problems identified by Value Stream Mapping by bridging quickly from the current state identified in VSM to the desired future improved state outlined in the training.

Benefits
Upon completion of the Kaizen event, the improvements are immediate. The organization will be able to:

   •  Effectively implement and sustain high-impact improvement opportunities
   •  Accomplish in days what other methods take months to get done
   •  Reduce production lead time, inventory and cost
   •  Increase available capacity with additional capital investment
   •  Increase productivity and product quality simultaneously
   •  Reduce order lead time
   •  Decrease area footprint

At the conclusion of a Time Wise Kaizen event, clients receive:

   •  A comprehensive roll-up report for management
   •  A Kaizen storyboard illustrating improvements
   •  A plan for sustaining improvements

Case Study
P.J. Noyes is a contract manufacturing and packaging company in New Hampshire. Their challenge was to be able to flexibly and efficiently change over from one customer’s product to the next. Following Lean training and a Value Stream Mapping event, P.J. Noyes conducted a Kaizen event utilizing the Time Wise Kaizen tools and trained facilitators. The team targeted activities to make small improvements that could result in large productivity gains. Within one week of the Kaizen event, one line in the Liquid Packaging area went from producing 6,900 units per shift to 12,800 units per shift. A Quick Change-Over Kaizen was also conducted which resulted in new procedures.
“Because of all these improvements, production in Liquid Packaging has doubled and sales have increased. The team is keeping up with demand while increasing capacity to meet new challenges and has even added new customers, says Vice President Dennis Wogaman. “Not only has it give us great results, it has provided a lot of laughter along the way. My personal fulfillment was watching people become believers in what they can do by setting lofty goals and achieving them..”

Testimonials
“We trained the workforce to become the solution. The result has been a 20 to 25% increase in production capacity within the facility.”

“The culture in the company has changed. We are constantly looking for ways to improve and really feel like we are a cohesive team. It is now clear to me that had we not made these improvements by implementing the Lean techniques, we would be in serious trouble.”
