Lean for Healthcare Overview
With continued pressure from government, regulators, insurance companies, patients and financial executives, hospitals and other healthcare organizations are looking for ways to drive performance excellence. Lean allows healthcare institutions to identify and rid themselves of non-value-added activities inherent in processes such as scheduling, admitting, billing and discharge, while allowing more face time between physicians and patients. By eliminating, simplifying or integrating process steps, time spent away from direct patient care can be reduced and patient and employee satisfaction improved.
Lean identifies areas for improvement in the current process. Time Wise has worked with a number of national hospitals in deploying innovative Lean training and implementation programs featuring customized simulation materials that reflect each organization’s culture. We train executive management teams and internal Lean consulting staff in how to structure, deploy, measure and sustain metrics that drive improved patient and employee safety, greater patient satisfaction while aggressively reducing variances and cost.
Through root cause analysis, Time Wise® is able to treat the issue, not just the symptoms. Simple, time-tested techniques can improve how a department or organization functions, without affecting the clinical interactions. Implementing Lean principles can allow healthcare staff the time necessary to do what they do best, providing excellent care. Participants learn improved process flow, elimination of non-value-added activities and value creation through the eyes of patients.
